rev a DCMID03 series 3 watts dc/dc converter single and dual outputs 8/19/2016 wall industries, inc. ? 37 industrial driv e, exeter, nh 03833 ? tel: 603 - 778 - 2300 ? toll free: 888 - 597 - 9255 ? fax 603 - 778 - 9797 website: www.wallindustries.com ? e - mail: sales@wallindustries.com page 4 of 5 t est setup input reflected - ripple current test setup input reflected - ripple current is measured with a inductor lin (4.7 h) and cin (220 f, esr <1.0 at 100khz) to simulate source impedance. capacitor cin, offsets possible battery impedance. current ripple is measured at the input terminals of the module, measurement bandwidth is 0 - 500khz. p e a k - to - peak output noise measurement test use a cout 0.33 f ceramic capacitor. s c ope measurement shoul d be made by using a b nc socket, measurement bandwidth is 0 - 20mhz. position the load between 50mm and 75mm from the dc/dc converter. t e c hnical notes maximum capacitive load the DCMID03 - hi series has limitat ion of maximum connected capacitance at the output. the power module may be operated in current limiting mode during start - up, affecting the ramp - up and the startup time. for optimum performance we recommend 220 f maximum capacitive load for dual outputs and 470 f ca pacitive load for single outputs. the maximum capacit ance can be found in data sheet . input source impedance power module should be connected to a low ac - impedance input source. h i ghly inductive source impedances can affect the stability of the power module. i n applications where power is supplied over long lines and output loading is high, it may be necessary to use a capacitor at the input to ensure star tup. capacitor mounted close to the power module helps ensure stability of the unit, it is recommended to use a good quality low e qui valent series resistance (esr <1.0 at 100khz) capacitor of a 4.7 f for the 5v input devices and a 2.2 f for the 12v and 24v devices. output ripple reduction a good qualit y low esr capa citor pla ced as close as practicab le across the load will give the best ripple and noise performance. to reduce output ripple, it is recommended to use 1.5 f capacitors at the output . thermal considerations many conditions affect the thermal performance of the power module, such as orientation, airflow over the module an d board spaci ng. to avoid exceeding the maximum temperature rating of the components inside the power module, the case temperature must be kept b elow 95 o c. the derating curves are determined from measurements obtained in a test setup.
